Yes, you knew that already. But tonight we had to do the official BAKING TEST FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Or as it is also known, the obligatory stash of treats for the 2nd graders to celebrate you know who’s birthday on Monday. The result is that the chocolate chips (what else?) came out fantastic. They took FOREVER to bake though. The first batch on a fully preheated oven took almost 18 minutes. And this is the Nestle Tollhouse recipe that says 9 to 11. The second batch took about 15.
Hmmm… what does this mean for the Christmas butter cookies? Hard to screw up chocolate chips. Quite easy to screw up butter cookies. What about pie? Too bad I don’t have time or inclination or room for THAT many spare calories on my hips to do many test batches.
Chocolate Chip Cookies. Best. Cookie. Ever.
For your drooling pleasure….
The new stove has been delivered – and it is waiting in the living room for the electrician to do his magic tomorrow.
The new stove in the living room
We elected not to pick up the tile today. Things got a little too congested to make that feasible, so that will have to wait until Friday or Monday.

Cross another few off the list – we bought the stove today! (Thanks, Mom!)
It is a Frigidaire Gallery – not fancy in any way – but we expect that it will shut off when you turn the knob. Unlike our current oven. We went with the floor model to save a couple of extra bucks and they’ll drop it at the curb sometime on Wednesday.
Along with that, we’ve scheduled the electrician to come on Thursday. He agreed to drill the holes through the joists for us and he thinks all the stuff I want done can be done in a day pretty easily. We are happy both on the disruption front and cost front for that.
And THEN, I got the email that the tiles will be at the distribution center on Wednesday. There will be some interesting juggling to borrow a truck to pick them up yet be here to receive the stove.
Just another day of breaking the laws of physics.
I’ve been trying to sit down and calmly finish off the calculations for the cabinet door order, but I’m feeling really overwhelmed because this whole week just got REALLY busy inside of 3 hours. I’m eating the elephant bite by bite, but frankly, I could use a box of chocolate chip cookies right about now.
Current issues include deciding between an all black stove or one with some stainless accents. The latter being to appease the nebulous “buyer” who will eventually take this house from us. Someday. Oh, buyer, the things we are going through to woo you…
Also, need to have the electrician change the wiring from hard-wired to an outlet. Cause most ranges today are plug-in, right? Grrr – gotta call the appliance store to check.
And smooth top versus coils. Will we be careful enough to not scratch a smooth top? Even with our fancy pantsy popcorn popper – used easily 2 times a week? Oh, and if you are wondering why not just get a gas line installed? Because they are 1000+ and the nebulous buyer has not earned it. They can just up and deal and do something for themselves when they get here.
