Perhaps it is my fond rememberings of college Chemistry Lab (nope, not high school chem lab – that still sucked), but I’m charmed by soapstone. The positives are that the company we plan to purchase from offers a DIY friendly option by selling slabs in countertop depth. We will be using a carbide blade on a circular saw and we will do the install ourselves. Except for the sink cutout. Because not even I am that dumb.
The bad news about having a large kitchen is that we are covering nearly 50 square feet of counters. But not having to pay a fabricator will help control costs by more than half.
